PARKS & COMMUNITY SPACES

Building and revitalizing the parks and public spaces where our community gathers, plays, and connects.
Our parks and open spaces are at the core of what makes SLO a healthy, connected, and inclusive community. They are places where neighbors gather, kids explore and play, and people of all ages can access the benefits of the outdoors. I’ve prioritized listening to residents across our city and turning those voices into meaningful, community-centered investments.
We recently completed a major renovation of the Laguna Lake Dog Park, transforming the beloved 3-acre off-leash area with improvements that make it more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming for everyone. Upgrades include new perimeter fencing, dedicated spaces for small and large dogs, ADA-accessible pathways, improved turf and drainage, and new play features. The park reopened in May 2025 to strong community enthusiasm.
We also invested in a new bike pump track, creating a safe, inclusive space for riders of all ages and skill levels to build confidence and enjoy the outdoors. At Emerson Park, a thoughtful revitalization has enhanced usability and strengthened its role as a neighborhood gathering place. And at Righetti Community Park, we made a significant investment to ensure that one of our fastest-growing neighborhoods has access to high-quality, equitable recreational space.
These projects reflect what I consistently hear from residents: a desire for parks that are safe, welcoming, well-maintained, and accessible to all. I will continue to center equity, accessibility, and community input in every budget decision so that our public spaces truly serve everyone in SLO.
